LG LuV300B Review by jtrumpio

I have always been skeptical of the Dyson hype - I think most people love to talk about how good their Dyson is so they feel better about buying something that is four times overpriced and mediocre quality. I think the bottom line about vacuums is this:

1) Ambient air pressure is mostly constant and what matters most is not how much of a pressure differential it can produce, but the volume of air it can move and where the inlets are located. Don't be fooled into thinking that one vacuum is capable of generating more "suction" than another because it has a more efficient proprietary top secret impeller design - volume of air is what matters, not pressure differential and Dyson certainly doesn't have the exclusive on impeller design. Unfortunately you'll never see manufacturers rate their vacuums in CFM. This vacuum moves an impressive amount of air and on hard surfaces will pull dog hair into the beater bar from 5+ inches away - this is because it is moving a LOT of air. It also diffuses the exhaust very well, so the vacuum doesn't blow dirt around before it has a chance to suck it up. This was something my old bagless Eureka wouldn't do - and keep in mind I didn't replace it because it was performing poorly, I replaced it because I was tired of having to empty it 5 times to vacuum my house.

2) Efficiency in separating dirt from air is key - if you don't remove dust from the exhaust, the dust will just circulate through the air and settle again. This vacuum does a great job - it doesn't smell like a dirty vacuum, and in bright sunlight you don't see dust particles blowing around. Additionally the Kompressor functionality is amazing and lets you spend time vacuuming, not trying to find creative ways to not spill dirt everywhere when you empty the dirt chamber.

3) This vacuum has a Gates Micro-V belt, which is the same technology used in the accessory belt on your car - it contains V channels for increased grip and cooler operation. It also uses kevlar cords which are used to transmit the power, while the rubber is only expected to provide traction on the pulley - this means the belt will NEVER stretch like the belts on other vacuums, including the Dysons. Nobody can argue with longer belt life and better performance, can they? Then again, maybe the accountants at LG didn't realize they could sell you a crappy belt 50 cent belt for $14 after 12 months of use.

4) Nobody has really had a great way to store all of the attachments until this vacuum. I am really impressed with how well the attachment features store and operate.

5) Washable filters are key - this vacuum includes a spare, so you're not forced to spend time hunting down consumable items when you need them the most.

6) Noise. This thing is pretty quiet - in fact the quietest vacuum I've seen. Part of that is the strategy of moving a higher volume of air at a lower pressure.

Since this vacuum meets all of these criteria, it's a great buy. My only complaint is that the kickdown lever doesn't offer much traction regardless of footwear.

LG LuV300B Review by Stela Pen "Stela" (CO, USA)

I had a Dyson and I was looking for a better vacuum. This fulfill all my needs. Attachment that comes with the hose is great! Suction power is better than dyson. Bin is big and the compression technology helps to minimize number of times you empty. To have an idea, with dyson I had to empty the bin twice and with this vacuum I empty only once and there was still space for more.

Another test I did: I vacuum the carpet with Dyson and later with LG. I was surprised with the dust that was still on the carpet that LG picked up! I won't complain about the dyson it works ok, but this LG has more suction power (I saw specification at the LG site), it's silent (more than dyson), power cord is long (40ft) and this is very nice! no more stop to vacuum to look for a closer outlet! The vacuum has a bigger bin and the compress technology compress the dusty leaving more space in the bin. So no more stop to vacuum to empty bin!

Another thing about the bin, dyson has something in the middle of the bin, so if you have pets, sometimes the dirt get stuck inside the canister and you have to use your hands to take the dirty out. With LG you don't need to worry about that. There is nothing inside the bin that would make the dirt and dog hair stuck inside the bin.

The vacuum seems heavy but compared to the dyson model it is lighter. Of course you don't want to compare the weight of the LG with a oreck.

All controls either are on the handle (diginal) or on the bottom and it's controlled by the feet. It pick up pet hair great (things that my Dyson didn't, with Dyson I had to pass over twice or three times to catch the hair).

I was between the Platinum Hoover and this vacuum which was more expensive and I don't regret at all on buying this LG. That was the best vacuum I bought after the dyson.

Let's see after few months how the suction power will be. I'll back to write more about.

****** Few months after: The vacuum lost suction power after I start to use carpet cleaning powder (note: there is no instructions from LG on restricting using cleaning and scenting powder that you can find on any shelf at the grocery store). Besides, one day when I removed the canister the bottom just opened and spread all dirt/dusty/powder over the machine and floor (it was a huge mess!!!!). I called the customer representative, I was surprised how fast they were on sending me the package and label to my house so I could send the unit for repair. They returned the vacuum in 1 week. My disappointment is that looking at the vacuum it seemed that nothing was changed.
The biggest disappointment when I received my vacuum back was:
1. there was scratches in the unit I never had before (believe, I'm very careful with all my appliances and furniture);
2. suction power seemed a little bit better but not the same when it was a new brand product;
3. Canister: when I removed the canister, the bottom just opened and spread everything. I had to carry the canister to the trash holding the bottom and emptied it. I looked close and I noticed that the lock that holds the bottom of the canister were broken.
So conclusion: the vacuum I had sent to repair was sent back to me worst than it was. No solution at all.
I sent an email to LG complaining about that. So I'm waiting for them to let me know what they will do with my case before I return this unit to the store and back to my old dyson. I know LG has nice and good features but I don't want to stuck with a scratched and broken vacuum forever. At least my dyson never had broken during all the years I have (about 3 years).
For now, I'll leave 1 star for this product and if they really fix this issue I'll back to report my feedback and also pictures and video of the broken and scratched unit if this is not solved.

**** New update and last: Well after called customer service I realized they are not willing to fix the scratches and seems that they are avoiding to receive the unit for maintenance. They now are requesting the receipt of the purchase (they hadn't asked me the first time I sent the unit for maintenance) and without the receipt they don't say they won't fix they just keep repeating "we need the receipt in order to receive the unit". I had asked for the supervisor and no help at all. Lucky I bought the unit at the local store that is more flexible than LG, so I'll just return the unit and buy a dyson. Too bad because I liked the LG vacuum but without a decent service and breaking few months after use, forget about. If I could I would give ZEROOOOOOOO star.

LG LuV300B Review by Mr. Michael R. Fairchild

So I was reading the 500+ Amazon reviews of the Hoover Platinum Lightweight Upright with the separate canister and blahbity blah and I was convinced it was the vac for our new house. Averaging 4.5 stars, the reviewers had me believing that I was totally wrong about all my preconceptions regarding bags and weight and attachments and all that. I was ready to push the button but, being the intrepid consumer I am, I hesitated. One more day of due diligence.

Coincidentally, I was also shopping for a cordless trimmer/edger and was at the local Sears store that very night with my wife when I saw the vacuum section! Wow, there they were, all the ones I had been reading about including the Hooooover! And it was on sale for the same price listed on Amazon - $199! Two birds with one stone and no waiting, I was ready to take it home. But wait, here we were among all these vacs in person, why not compare? Which is what we proceeded to do and I have to tell you I was amazed that I had forgotten how much better real shopping is than virtual. Reviews are great data but I'm now convinced that sometimes people writing the reviews just want to believe they've chosen the best product when, in fact, they have nothing to compare or just the memories of the previous one that broke or sucked (or in this case didn't).

So there we are checking out all the other machines, particularly the ones branded for being great for pet owners, when a young sales guy walks up. "You have pets? Yes? Let me show you something real quick", he says. He takes us around the corner and points to the LG, "I have this one myself and it's got the best suction of any of these and it's great on pet hair - and it's on sale for $179". I had to admit it looked cooler than the Hoover, but this was a sales guy on commission pushing whatever they wanted to move that day. I had the heartfelt backing of over 500 Amazon reviewers telling me not to believe it. Then he lays it out, "Pick whichever one you want and we'll plug 'em up and take 'em to 'the rug'". It was on. I ran to my Hoover prepared to show the kid the power of the internet in meat space. He threw down a bunch of dirt on a black carpet and allowed me to go first. I Hooved and Hooved but a disappointing gray haze remained on the rug. I also noticed that the thing wasn't exactly what I'd call quiet as the reviewers would have me believe. It had trouble picking up a coin too. LG's turn. To be fair he let me do the honors. I immediately noticed that it was much quieter. It was also quite a bit heavier, but that was actually a good thing, it made it feel more solid and the beater assisted the action. Going over the same area the gray haze disappeared with each single stroke. The dime came right off the floor and plopped in the canister - no bag, so I got it back, bonus! I was beside myself. I had all the intel but I was wrong.

So, long story but I feel like I had to make the point. Don't believe everything you read when shopping online. I'm not saying people lie, even though I'm sure some of that goes on too, I'm just saying people want to believe and that can skew perception. I admit that I didn't compare every vacuum that day, but when I got home I did all the floors and picked up a huge load of dog hair, all nicely compressed into a lump which I easily ejected out the bottom of the can - just like in the video. I wanted results and that's what I got. But I wonder what I would have said about the Hoover without anything to compare it to? And with a bag you never know exactly what you're picking up. I imagine I would have loved it and given it a 5 star review on Amazon.

So I'm only giving it 4 stars (4.5 if possible) because it doesn't have a light, the wand dealy has to be attached to the hose and secured in place or the machine won't run, and I've only had it a week. I'll update if I find anything that changes my mind, but so far I'm feeling pretty lucky I went old school and talked to a sales guy - never thought I'd say that.
